Songs can have many individual tracks in them
The engineer has to mix everything and attend to volume, EQ, position in the mix and add effects to each track.

The mastering engineer makes sure the album flows
Songs are relative volume to one another
overall volume and EQ fits with albums of similar genre
Adds metadata and makes a DDP file
